Academic Support and Resources

At Elkhart High School, we provide students with the resources and support they need to succeed. While students are taught the core academic standards, they are also encouraged to explore areas of interest, including art, industrial technology, and music. Whether preparing for college, vocational training, or technical careers, our academic programs offer a comprehensive and personalized learning experience.

Support for Freshman Students

The Freshman Division is designed to help ninth graders transition into high school successfully. Students are placed into one of six academies (Gray, Green, Orange, Purple, Red, or Yellow), where they receive instruction from a dedicated team of teachers, a counselor, and an administrator. All students have access to the same academic opportunities, ensuring a strong foundation for future success.

Additional Academic Support

  • Classroom Connections: During IMPACT period, students can request to meet with a teacher for extra help, and teachers may also request that students come in for additional instruction.
  • Student Success Club: After-school tutoring is available Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (no bus transportation provided).
  • CROSSroads (Credit Recovery): Students with a semester grade between 45% and 59% in core classes (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, or Health) can recover their credit through this program. CROSSroads runs during the second semester, Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (no bus transportation provided).

Support at the Main Campus

Peer Tutoring

Peer Tutoring is a for-credit elective course where high school students help their peers in state-approved courses. Tutors gain valuable skills in communication, problem-solving, and teaching strategies, making it a great option for students interested in mentorship or education careers.

National Honor Society (NHS) Tutoring

Students in the National Honor Society offer free tutoring sessions for all grade levels, both at EHS and at community libraries. Check with the main office for details on available sessions.

Advisory Period

Students who need additional academic support can work on assignments or participate in targeted interventions during the advisory period at the end of the school day. Families seeking more information about academic interventions should contact their child’s School of Study principal.

We are committed to helping every student succeed and encourage families to take advantage of these resources.
