Jazz Band

What is the Jazz Band?

There are three Jazz Bands at Elkhart High School: Jazz Band 1, Jazz Band 2, and the Freshman Division Jazz Band.

How does a student get involved in Jazz Band?

Students earn a spot in Jazz Band 1 through a competitive audition process. There is no audition for Jazz Band 2 or the Freshman Division Jazz Band. For all Jazz Bands, the student must be concurrently enrolled in a concert band.

When do the Jazz Bands practice?

The Jazz Bands rehearse during the school day, with occasional after school rehearsals.

Do the Jazz Bands perform for the community?

The Jazz Bands perform about four times throughout the year, including the Band Festival, Winter Concert, ISSMA Festival, and the ECS Jazz Showcase.

Do the Jazz Bands compete in music competitions?

No. The Jazz Bands perform annually at the ISSMA High School Jazz Festival, which is a non-competitive event.

Marching Band

What is the Marching Band?

The Marching Band is a musical and visual pageantry ensemble made up of Elkhart High School students in grades 9–12.

How does a student get involved in Marching Band?

Band students sign up for Marching Band in the spring.

When does the Marching Band practice?

The Marching Band rehearses several evenings in June. Band Camp is held at Elkhart High School and lasts for two weeks in July. Beginning in August, the band rehearses two or three evenings per week.

Does the Marching Band perform for the community?

Yes. The Marching Band performs at home football games, parades, and local competitions in Goshen, Elkhart, and Mishawaka.

Does the Marching Band compete in music competitions?

Yes. The Marching Band competes at all Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) events and the Bands of America Indianapolis Super-Regional Competition.

Pep Band

The Pep Band is a volunteer group that performs at home basketball games.

How does a student get involved in Pep Band?

Band students sign up for Pep Band in the fall.

When does the Pep Band practice?

The Pep Band rehearses several afternoons in November and before each home basketball game.

Does the Pep Band perform for the community?

The Pep Band performs for most home basketball games.

Does the Pep Band compete in music competitions?

No.

Symphonic Band

Students earn a spot through a competitive audition process. The prerequisite is Beginning or Intermediate Band.

Students earn a spot through a competitive audition process. The prerequisite is Beginning or Intermediate Band.

When does the Wind Ensemble practice?

The Wind Ensemble rehearses during the school day and about ten evenings throughout the year.

Does the Wind Ensemble perform for the community?

Yes. The ensemble performs four or five times each year, including the Winter Celebration Concert, ISSMA Preview Concert, ISSMA State Qualification Contest, ISSMA State Finals (if qualified), and the Spring Concert.

Does the Wind Ensemble compete in music competitions?

Yes. The Wind Ensemble participates in ISSMA competitions.

Freshman Division Blue Band
