Attendance

• Excused Absence: A parent/guardian reports the absence within one school day.
• Exempt Absence: Includes things like field trips, college visits, or school-approved events.
• Unexcused Absence: No contact from a parent/guardian or not an approved reason.

Attendance codes in PowerSchool will reflect these types:

• E = Excused
• X = Exempt
• A = Unexcused
• CV = College Visit
• FT = Field Trip
• (Additional codes may be added based on district usage.)

If your student is arriving late:

• Please report the reason through PowerSchool or call the school office.
• All students arriving after the start of the school day must check in at the front office.

Students arriving more than ____ minutes late may be marked absent for that class or period. Repeated unexcused tardies may result in follow-up by school staff.

If your student needs to leave school early:

• Contact the school office in advance (ideally before 8:00 a.m.)
• The student will need to pick up an outpass from the front office:
  • Between classes
  • During lunch
  • Or before exiting the building

Leaving without prior authorization will result in an unexcused absence for any missed classes.

We’ll only call students out of class during the school day for true emergencies, in line with district policy. Other urgent messages will be delivered during class transitions to limit disruptions.

We’re here to support—not punish. But consistent patterns of absence or tardiness may lead to outreach:

1. After 8 full-day absences: A letter home to families.
2. After 12 absences: A meeting request with a school administrator.
3. After 16 absences: Referral to support services.
4. After 20 absences: Potential referral to [County/State Truancy Department] per state guidelines.

Excused/Exempt Absences
Students are responsible for completing missed work and tests.
They have one day per day missed to make up assignments. Teachers may allow tests to be taken immediately if students were aware of the schedule before their absence.

Unexcused Absences
Make-up work may not be permitted and could impact grades. Contact your school for questions or support.

Suspensions
Students are expected to complete assignments during in-school or out-of-school suspension. For longer suspensions, contact the school for a homework packet or check Google Classroom.
